TechNet Stands with LGBTQ Americans During Pride Month and Throughout the Year

By
TechNet President and CEO Linda Moore

This year, in the wake of the Supreme Court's decision prohibiting the firing of a person based on their sexual orientation or gender identity,  Pride Month has taken on a special significance.   At TechNet,  we applauded the decision and are heartened that the anti-discrimination principles that our organization lives by are now the law of the land in workplaces across our nation.

TechNet has worked for years to promote the cause of equality at both the state and federal level.  At the federal level,  we have been a strong advocate of the Equality Act to help ensure a nationwide standard for LGBTQ Americans,  and we have worked to defeat discriminatory measures in federal bills.

Our fight for equality at the 50-state level has required more vigilance and determination.   In 2019 and 2020 alone,  TechNet worked to defeat 27 state-level bills that would discriminate against LGBTQ Americans.   We were proud to help lead a coalition against the infamous Texas 'bathroom bill' in 2017,  and earlier this year,  TechNet helped unveil a report showing that a comprehensive, statewide nondiscrimination law in Texas would bring the state 180,000 new jobs and $2.8 billion in state tax receipts by 2025.

While the most recent Supreme Court decision brings us one major step closer to equality and is cause for celebration,  much more work is required to bend the arc of justice for all Americans.  TechNet stands firmly behind individuals whose only demand and desire is to be treated the same as others and to have the same legal protections afforded to other Americans.  TechNet takes pride in being an ally of the LGBTQ community and in our contributions to the fight to ensure true equality all across our nation.
