Serial entrepreneur, award winning inventor (30+ patents apps), product designer (dozens of awards), marketer, and scientist (National Science Foundation grantee/principal investigator). Mark has 25+ years in semiconductor, wireless, healthcare, environmental, consumer/retail industries and has formation and founding 7 tech start-ups for which he has raised 17 rounds of VC financing (nearly $250M). Prior to co-founding Salveo, Mark founded ecoATM ($350M acquired by Outerwall in '13); was VP Marketing with Vativ (sold to Entropic); co-founded Staccato in 2002 as VP Marketing & Business. Development; co-founder and President/COO and director of BOPS, Inc (sold to Altera). Prior to this he helped form and fund Power Computing ($130M acquired by Apple in '96); Panorama Designs (acquired by Motorola in '96); and BlueSteel Networks (2000 acquired by Broadcom for $110M). Mr. Bowles also spent six years at Motorola Semiconductor where he held various distribution management, sales and market development positions; he left Motorola in '96 as VP MSPI of PowerPC Market Development.
Mark has 9 patents granted and 30+ pending in kiosk technology, wireless, and diagnostics. He is also National Science Foundation principal investigator, grantee and researcher. He has been an active standards member of IEEE 802.15.3a, 802.15.4a, 802.11n; co-founded MBOA (marketing chair); WiMedia Alliance director (Liaison to China Chapter); key contributor to Certified Wireless USB; and Chair of DRF regulatory committee.
Mark has been a speaker on entrepreneurism and innovation at Duke, Stanford, UCSD, USD, SDSU, Pepperdine, Hult, Wharton and Harvard. Mark is a board member and Senior Fellow with Pepperdine's Graziadio school of business and USD's Center for Peace and Commerce.
Mark earned a BS in Industrial Distribution from Texas A&M, and a Master of Science in Technology Management (eMBA) from Pepperdine University. Raised in Southeast Texas by Greek Orthodox, cajun, hippies, Mark now lives in La Jolla, CA with his wife and 3 sons.
