Shyam Sankar is the Director of Forward Deployed Engineering at Palantir Technologies. His responsibilities include leading Palantir’s Government and Finance business units, driving all new business initiatives, managing Palantir’s numerous Fortune 500 vendor and integrator partnerships, and oversight of all deployments worldwide. A computer scientist by training, Shyam is also responsible for developing Palantir’s unique “Forward Deployed Engineering” process, whereby all customer outreach, requirements gathering, and product development is handled exclusively by qualified technical experts. A recognized expert on national security and defense technology and policy, Shyam has been profiled by media sources including the Wall Street Journal, National Public Radio, and Science magazine. Shyam was a featured speaker at the 2009 Gov 2.0 Summit and most recently at TED2010.
Prior to Palantir, Shyam was Director of Business Development for Xoom Corporation, an international money transfer service funded by leading Silicon Valley venture capitalists. In this capacity, he developed a global network of financial institutions providing low-cost remittance services to immigrant communities in Africa, Southeast Asia, India, and Latin America.
Shyam earned his B.S. in electrical and computer engineering from Cornell University as well as his M.S. in management science and engineering from Stanford University. His interests include developmental economics, the theory and practice of life extension, and cycling.
