Washington, D.C. — TechNet, the national, bipartisan network of innovation economy CEOs and senior executives, today announced the newest addition to its Executive Council of technology industry leaders: Bastian Lehmann, Co-founder and CEO of Postmates, the first on-demand delivery marketplace.

Lehmann co-founded Postmates in 2011. Postmates has established itself as a market leader in the fast-growing on-demand delivery sector. As the creator of on-demand ‘anything,’ Postmates gives customers across 550 U.S. cities and Mexico access to over 250,000 local restaurants, retailers, and neighborhood stores with real-time deliveries. By creating an alternative infrastructure for local and small businesses to compete against online e-commerce giants, Postmates’ technologies boosted local brick and mortar retail sales fourfold in 2017.

In joining TechNet’s Executive Council, Lehmann said: “Our economy is bearing witness to a 21st century knowledge revolution, where the R&D we invest in as technology executives has the power to connect local business to global markets, while challenging the traditional way commerce moves in cities. It has the power to create new efficiencies and earning opportunities, while begging the question of how we train students and preserve the dignity of a job. It has the power to transform the way we live and communicate with the world, while challenging the way we preserve the dignity of our privacy,” said Bastian Lehmann, Co-founder and CEO of Postmates. “As an immigrant to this country, I know America is uniquely poised to win a future that is both pro-technology and pro-worker; but public policy must keep pace. I am excited to join TechNet’s Executive Council and contribute my insights to advance policies that ensure Americans are prepared to seize the exciting new opportunities that lie ahead.”

In welcoming Lehmann to the Executive Council, TechNet President and CEO Linda Moore said: “As the co-founder of a highly successful on-demand economy startup, Bastian understands the challenges new businesses face as they grow and scale, as well as the policies needed to position all Americans for success in our evolving economy. We welcome Bastian’s leadership and perspective as we work in Washington, D.C. and in state capitals to advance a pro-startup innovation agenda. As an immigrant entrepreneur who has long dreamed of starting a business in the U.S. and eventually taking his company public here, Bastian’s and Postmates’ success is something we should all take pride in as Americans.”
