Washington, D.C. — TechNet President and CEO Linda Moore made the following statement regarding President Trump’s recent executive order targeting social media companies.
“Tech companies, particularly social media companies, have played a crucial role in creating connections and helping consumers access the goods they need. More recently, they have become a lifeline for millions of Americans and billions of people around the world as they quarantine to avoid being afflicted with COVID-19.
The President does not have the ability to regulate the fundamental American principle of free speech through an executive order. The executive order endorses government oversight of speech and would only hamper ongoing efforts by companies to fact-check misinformation and prevent the spread of violent content.”
