Bish serves as TechNet’s State Policy Manager based in Sacramento, and he is responsible for helping coordinate TechNet’s 50-state advocacy program. He is a scientist and community leader whose work straddles legislative experience, research, education and outreach, and diversity and inclusion. Before joining TechNet, he worked in the California State Legislature in the offices of Assemblymembers Marc Berman (D) and Evan Low (D). Bish completed his Ph.D. in molecular biology at the University of Washington. His doctoral dissertation used genome editing to engineer cells of the immune system to make them resistant to HIV and subsequent infection in humans. He used the California Council on Science and Technology (CCST) Science Policy fellowship in the California legislature to learn to translate his in-depth Ph.D. training into real-world policy outcomes. While at the legislature, Bish founded and led the Capitol LGBTQ Association to help recruit and retain diverse candidates in public policy. In his spare time, he loves to hike in the Pacific Northwest, binge on NPR, and explore spicy cuisines.
