Washington, D.C. – TechNet, the national, bipartisan network of technology CEOs and senior executives, today praised the U.S. House of Representatives for passing the Tools to Address Known Exploitation by Immobilizing Technological Deepfakes on Websites and Networks (TAKE IT DOWN) Act. TechNet released the following statement from TechNet President and CEO Linda Moore:
“TechNet applauds the House passage of the TAKE IT DOWN Act. This is a critical step to protect victims, hold bad actors accountable, and enable tech companies to take prompt action. Our members are deeply committed to ensuring the safety and security of users on their platforms, and we have long advocated for policies that foster responsible advancement of tech, like artificial intelligence, while safeguarding against potential harm from malicious actors.
“We commend the bipartisan leadership in the House and Senate to advance this bill and urge the President to sign it swiftly into law. TechNet looks forward to continuing to work with policymakers to keep users safe online and promote American innovation.”
The TAKE IT DOWN Act mandates the removal of non-consensual intimate images within 48 hours and criminalizes the publication of these images, whether they are real or AI-generated. The Senate passed the TAKE IT DOWN Act in February. The bill will now go to President Trump to be signed into law.
