Washington, D.C. – TechNet, the national, bipartisan network of innovation economy CEOs and senior executives, filed an amicus brief in Carr v. Google before the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. Oral arguments will likely be held in the fall. The following statement can be attributed to TechNet President and CEO Linda Moore:
“This case before the Ninth Circuit represents a fundamental threat to the U.S. economy and American innovation. Technology underpins every sector of our economy and serves a broad and diverse customer base.
“If allowed to continue, this case could set a precedent that will stifle innovation and hurt American businesses, including startups, by watering down the standard for class certification. Instead, the court must keep in place the rigorous standards that are well established to certify a class.
“With our foreign competitors looking to surpass the U.S. in innovation, now is the time to strengthen American innovation, not empower litigation. We hope the Ninth Circuit will reverse the District Court’s ruling, uphold long-standing precedent, and enable the U.S. to win the next era of innovation.”
