Washington, D.C. — TechNet President and CEO Linda Moore today issued the following statement after the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 5363, the Fostering Undergraduate Talent by Unlocking Resources for Education (FUTURE) Act, which makes permanent $255 million in annual funding for Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and Minority Serving Institutions (MSIs):
“Historically Black Colleges and Universities and Minority Serving Institutions play an indispensable role in preparing millions of Americans for the jobs of the future, and we are pleased to see the FUTURE Act continue to advance in Congress.
“This dedicated annual funding will help ensure students at these vital institutions have the resources, education, and training needed to succeed and help the U.S.achieve a more diverse and inclusive workforce. In order for our economy to reach its full potential, we must bring out the best in all talented and capable individuals who have so much to contribute.
“We thank Representative Alma Adams for her work to pass this bill in the House. We urge the Senate to pass it and send it to the President’s desk.”
The FUTURE Act now returns to the Senate for further action. Last week, it passed a version of the FUTURE Act that was amended by the House prior to today’s successful vote.
