Washington, D.C. – TechNet, the national, bipartisan network of innovation economy CEOs and senior executives, issued the following statement on today’s hearing in the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure’s Subcommittee on Highways and Transit on the future of autonomous vehicles (AVs) in the U.S. The following can be attributed to TechNet President and CEO Linda Moore:

“Technology is making transportation safer, more accessible, and more efficient. Autonomous vehicles hold great promise in reducing injuries and fatalities on our roadways while transforming the way people, especially those with disabilities, are able to get around. The deployment of a safe, national framework for autonomous vehicles will also create good, high-paying jobs across the country and strengthen American global competitiveness.

“Without a federal standard, states are creating a patchwork of conflicting policies and unnecessary burdens that threaten the deployment of this innovative and rapidly-evolving technology. The federal government must lead by developing a uniform standard that ensures the safe testing, deployment, and operation of AVs across the country. We look forward to working with the Biden Administration and Congress to ensure this happens and applaud the House Transportation Committee for holding today’s hearing.”

Earlier today, TechNet sent a letter to members of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure’s Subcommittee on Highways and Transit calling for a federal framework that supports the continued innovation and deployment of autonomous vehicles.
