Washington, D.C. – TechNet, the national, bipartisan network of innovation economy CEOs and senior executives, today released a statement following Thursday’s hearing in the House Science, Space, and Technology Committee titled, “Artificial Intelligence: Advancing Innovation Towards the National Interest.” It can be attributed to TechNet President and CEO Linda Moore:

“Today’s hearing shined a light on the key benefits of AI and the challenges and goals we must focus on to ensure the U.S. leads the way in its responsible development and deployment across the globe. We are greatly encouraged to see our federal leaders partnering with America’s AI innovators to create an AI regulatory environment that strengthens, not stifles, U.S. innovation.

“We look forward to working with members of Congress on both sides of the aisle to help educate and inform them on how we can effectively regulate AI and win the next era of innovation.”

TechNet has been actively engaged in advocating for AI policies that mitigate risks, avoid overly broad requirements, and foster American innovation. Recently, TechNet:

  • Weighed in on Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer’s (D-NY) SAFE Innovation Framework for regulating artificial intelligence.
  • Responded to the National Telecommunications and Information Administration’s (NTIA) request for comment on AI system accountability measures and policies.
  • Provided feedback to a Congressional request from Senate Subcommittee on Consumer Protection, Product Safety, and Data Security Chair John Hickenlooper (D-CO) and Ranking Member Marsha Blackburn (R-TN).
