Washington, D.C. – TechNet, the national, bipartisan network of innovation economy CEOs and senior executives, released the following statement ahead of today’s second hearing on consumer privacy by the Senate Commerce Committee. The following can be attributed to Linda Moore, TechNet President and CEO.
“With security breaches up 67 percent since 2014, protecting user data and privacy is a priority for businesses across every sector of the U.S. economy. Passing a federal privacy law that protects consumers and provides businesses with clear responsibilities must be a priority for Congress as well. Consumers deserve the peace of mind that comes with knowing their data is protected no matter where they live, work, or shop, while businesses should have the certainty needed to innovate, hire talent, and grow.
“We applaud the Senate Commerce Committee for holding a second privacy hearing in as many weeks and recognizing the urgent need to enhance data security. We will continue to work with Congress and the Biden Administration to pass a national privacy law.”
