Washington, D.C. – TechNet, the national, bipartisan network of innovation economy CEOs and senior executives, today sent a letter to the Senate Judiciary Committee urging the committee to hold hearings to examine and prevent potential unintended consequences of the Open App Markets Act instead of rushing the bill through the markup process. The following can be attributed to Carl Holshouser, TechNet SVP:
“Instead of rushing another bill targeting American businesses through the markup process, the Senate Judiciary Committee should hold hearings on the Open App Markets Act to hear from experts about the unintended harms this bill could have on consumers, data privacy, cybersecurity and national security, and U.S. competitiveness.
“There are real concerns that this bill would reduce choice and raise costs for consumers and job creators. Furthermore, if this bill becomes law, it will put the privacy and security of all Americans at risk by making it easier for criminals, hackers, and foreign adversaries like China and Russia to successfully execute malware, ransomware, and cyberattacks.
“To prevent significant negative impacts on consumer choice, user privacy, and the broader app ecosystem, the committee should hold hearings to examine and avoid any unintended consequences from this legislation.”
