Washington, D.C. — TechNet President and CEO Linda Moore today issued the following statement after the U.S. House of Representatives passed S. 153, the Supporting Veterans in STEM Careers Act, which now goes to the President’s desk:
“With over 500,000 computing job openings in the U.S. and our nation’s veterans facing the unacceptable reality that 80 percent of them experience a period of unemployment when transitioning to civilian life, this legislation is critical to assisting veterans to match the unique skills developed during their time in the armed forces to a career in a STEM field. Ensuring veterans have a smooth transition to civilian life and cultivating an inclusive, homegrown STEM talent pipeline are top priorities for the technology industry.
“We thank Senators Marco Rubio (R-FL) and Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) and Representatives Neal Dunn (R-FL) and Conor Lamb (D-PA) for their bipartisan work on this legislation, and we look forward to President Trump signing it into law.”
In July 2019, TechNet sent a letter in support of S. 153 to the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation.
