Uber Releases Feature to Help Pronounce Employee’s Genuine Names

 

Uber calls it the Whober feature.

Often Asian Americans adopt “American” names to assimilate better into the culture.  Uber believes to improve employee sentiment, culture, and collaboration people simply need a way to educate others on how to pronounce their genuine names.

In partnership with an internal engineering team, Uber developed a feature in their internal employee directory tool that allows folks to write and record how someone should say their name.  Uber thinks it creates better connections and hopes one day to extend the feature into their app.
