Washington, D.C. – The following statement can be attributed to Carl Holshouser, TechNet SVP, following comments made by Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) expressing concerns over national security consequences of the American Innovation and Choice Online Act during today’s Senate Judiciary Committee markup:

“This bill targets successful American businesses, not our foreign adversaries, and would serve to weaken our economy while strengthening our competitors. It would also put our national security at risk as well as the data and privacy of all Americans. The legislation would make it easier for foreign governments and criminal hackers to exploit the reduced security standards this bill would require. Instead, Congress should pass a federal privacy law that protects consumers and gives businesses certainty about their responsibilities.”
