Washington, D.C. – In response to statements made about the need for a federal privacy law during today’s Senate Judiciary Committee markup of the American Innovation and Choice Online Act, which does nothing to protect consumer data privacy, TechNet SVP Carl Holshouser issued the following statement:

“During today’s Senate Judiciary Committee markup, Senator Patrick Leahy (D-VT) rightly raised the importance of online privacy protections for consumers – something that isn’t a part of the anti-innovation bill being considered in the Senate today. Rather than attacking one of America’s greatest economic strengths, our tech and innovation sector, the Senate should pass a federal privacy law to protect consumers and give businesses the certainty they need to continue growing and creating jobs. Amid record inflation and a pandemic, we strongly urge the Senate to focus on shoring up our fragile economic recovery instead of undermining it and handing a win to China as today’s anti-innovation would do.”
